01 — Synopsis
Sergio Leone, l’italiano che inventò l’America

Sergio Leone – The Italian Who Invented America, a documentary directed by Francesco Zippel, pays tribute to one of the Italian icons of world cinema. Sergio Leone’s fame reached beyond national borders, spreading his artistic vision and his style, which have become pillars of film language.

The film paints the portrait of a man steeped in a vast and deep culture, whose relationship with cinema dates back to his beginnings in the industry. A pioneer of the western and creator of the sub-genre known as the spaghetti western, Sergio Leone was a visionary director, always attentive to the evolution of cinema and its artistic expression. His relentless quest for new forms led him to shift his interest from the peplum to the western, with a style that left its mark not only on the film landscape of the 1960s and 70s, but also on the decades that followed, right up to the present day.

The documentary presents the filmmaker through the testimonies of those who knew him personally and of those who were deeply inspired by his work.
