01 — Synopsis
Mur

Actress Kasia Smutniak makes her directorial debut with a documentary that takes the form of a travel diary through her native Poland. The journey is marked by various barriers: that of the Jewish ghetto in front of which she grew up, and the one erected by the government on the border with Belarus to push back migrants coming from Syria. Some of these obstacles are insurmountable and invisible, and create a divide between those deemed worthy of sympathy and those regarded otherwise. Barriers that take the form of forests and barbed wire, and that sometimes turn into open doors, as with the welcome given to Ukrainian refugees, just 200 km from the very forest where asylum seekers are hunted down.
