Il Nibbio Alessandro Tonda

Il Nibbio recounts the twenty-eight days leading up to the tragic events of 4 March 2005, when Nicola Calipari, a senior SISMI officer, sacrificed his life to save that of journalist Giuliana Sgrena, who had been kidnapped in Iraq. The film explores the figure of Calipari and the true human context of his mission. The nickname “Il Nibbio” refers to a bird of prey that flies over the Aspromonte, a symbol of freedom and protection.
